HAIR SCIENCE
Understand Your Hair. Transform Your Results.
Hair growth is influenced by scalp, the follicle, hormones, circulation, nutrition and hair growth cycle. Discover the science behind healthy hair - and why targeted scalp care matters.
UNDERSTANDING HAIR GROWTH
Hair growth begins beneath the surface of the scalp, inside the hair follicle. Each follicle follows a natural growth cycle influenced by genetics, hormones, circulation, nutrition and overall scalp health. Understanding this cycle helps us understand why hair loss happens - and how we can better support healthy hair growth.
HAIR GROWTH PHASES
ANAGEN
Growth Phase
The active growth phase. Hair follicles produce new hair continuosly and may remain in this stage several years. The length of anagen helps determine how long hair can grow.
CATAGEN
Transition Phase
A short transition stage lasting approximately 2-3 weeks. Hair growth stops and the follicle shinks as the hair separates from its blood supply.
TELOGEN
Resting Phase
The follicle enters resting period, usually 2-3 months. The hair remains in place while the follicle prepares for the next growth cycle.
EXOGEN
Shedding Phase
The old hair is released from the follicle and naturally sheds. A new hair can then emerge as the follicle returns to the growth phase.
WHY HAIR LOSS HAPPENS
Hair loss occurs when something disrupts the normal hair growth cycle. Genetics, hormones, nutritional deficiencies, stress, shock, illness and scalp health can all influence how long follicle remains in its growth phase. When this balance is disturbed, more hairs may enter the resting and shedding phase, resulting in increased shedding, thinning or reduced density.
COMMON FACTORS BEHIND HAIR LOSS
HORMONES & DHT
Hormonal changes can influence the hair growth cycle. In genetically susceptible follicles, DHT can gradually shorten the growth phase and cause follicles to miniaturise, producing finer, shorter hairs over time.
NUTRITION
Hair follicles are highly active and require adequate nutrients. Low intake of deficiencies in nutrients such as protein, iron, zinc and certain vitamins can contribute to increased shedding and affect healthy production.
STRESS & ILLNESS
Physical or emotional stress, illness, surgery, rapid weight loss and other changes in the body can push a larger number of hairs into the resting phase, sometimes causing noticeable shedding several months later.
SCALP AND FOLLICLE HEALTH
A healthy scalp provides the environment in which follicles function. Excess oil, inflammation, buildup and certain scalp conditions can affect scalp comfort and may interfere with the environment surrounding the follicle.
SUPPORTING HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH
Hair growth is influenced by both internal and external factors. While no single product can address every cause of hair loss, supporting the scalp, follicle environment can form an important part of a healthy hair routine. A targeted approach focuses on scalp health, circulation, nutrition and protecting the follicle from factors that may interfere with healthy growth.
FOUNDATIONS OF HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH
SCALP HEALTH
A clean balanced scalp helps create a healthy environment around the follicle. Managing excess oil, buildup, dryness and irritation can support normal scalp function.
CIRCULATION
Hair follicles rely on healthy blood supply to receive oxygen and nutrients. Scalp massage and other targeted approaches can help support circulation around the follicle.
NUTRITION & LIFESTYLE
Protein, iron, zinc and other nutirents are important for normal hair production. Stress, rapid weight loss, illness and nutritional deficiencies can also affect the hair cycles.
TARGETED FOLLICLE SUPPORT
Carefully selected topical ingredients can support the scalp and follicle environment and address specific factors associated with thinning and shedding.
UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT TYPES OF HAIR LOSS
ANDROGENETIC HAIR LOSS
Pattern Hair Loss
The most common for of progressive hair loss. Genetics and sensitivity to androgens such as DHT can cause susceptible hair follicles to gradually miniaturise. Over time, hairs may become finer, shorter and less dense.
TEOGEN EFFLUVIUM
Excessive Shedding
A temporary form of increased shedding that occurs when more hairs than usual enter the resting phase. It can be triggered by stress, illness, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, rapid weight loss or other significant changes in the body.
ALOPECIA AREATA
Patchy Hair Loss
An autoimmune form of hair loss where the immune system mistakenly targets hair follicles. It often appears as sudden, smooth patches of hair loss and should be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.
TRACTION ALOPECIA
Tension-Related Hair Loss
Hair loss caused by repeated pulling or tension on the hair follicles. Tight hairstyles, extensions, braids and other styling practices can contribute over time. Early intervention and reducing tension may help prevent any further follicle damage.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TYPE
OF HAIR LOSS I HAVE?
Hair loss can look very different from one person to another. Where the loss occurs, how quickly it begins and whether you are experiencing thinning, shedding or distinct patches can provide important clues. Understanding the pattern is the first step towards deciding what kiind of support or professional assessment may be appropriate.
LOOK AT THE PATTERN
Where the hair loss occurs and how it develops can provide important clues. Look for gradual thinning, sudden increased shedding, distinct smooth patches, or loss around the hairline and edges.
If hair lossis sudden, severe, patchy or persistent, professional assessment can help identify the underlying cause.
WHEN SHOULD I SEEK
PROFESSIONAL HELP?
Hair shedding and thinning can sometimes be temporary, but certain changes deserve professional assessment. Consider speaking to a doctor, dermatologist or qualified hair-loss professional if you notice sudden or rapid hair loss, smooth bald patches, persistent excessive shedding, scalp pain or inflammation, or hair loss that continues to worsen.
A professional assessment can help identify whether factors such as hormones, nutritional deficiencies, medication, illness, scalp conditions or genetics may be contributing to the problem.
Early investigation can be important — especially when hair loss is sudden, unexplained or progressing
WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT HAIR LOSS?
Supporting hair growth starts with understanding what may be contributing to the problem. There is rarely one solution that suits every type of hair loss.
A well-rounded approach may include addressing internal factors, creating a healthy scalp environment, supporting circulation and follicle function, and using targeted treatments appropriate for the type of hair loss.
ADDRESS INTERNAL FACTORS
Nutrition, Hormones & Health
Hair follicles rely on adequate protein, iron, zinc, vitamins and other nutrients to function normally. Hormonal changes, illness, medication, stress and nutritional deficiencies may also influence the hair cycle. Identifying and addressing these factors can be an important part of managing hair loss.
SUPPORT SCALP HEALTH
Create a Healthy Environment
A clean, balanced scalp helps create a healthy environment around the follicle. Managing excess oil, buildup, dryness, irritation and certain scalp conditions can help support normal scalp function and improve comfort.
SUPPORT THE FOLLICLE
Protect the Growth Environment
Healthy follicles depend on an appropriate environment to function. Gentle scalp care, avoiding unnecessary tension or damage, and supporting normal circulation can all form part of a well-rounded approach to maintaining healthy hair growth.
TARGET THE CAUSE
Choose Treatment Appropriately
Different types of hair loss may require different approaches. Depending on the cause, support may include targeted topical ingredients, changes in hair-care practices, treatment of an underlying condition or clinically established therapies such as minoxidil.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR
HAIR GROWTH JOUNEY
Healthy hair growth takes time. Hair follicles follow a natural growth cycle, which means visible changes do not happen overnight.
With consistent use, you may first notice changes such as a healthier-feeling scalp, reduced shedding or improvements in the overall condition of your hair before visible changes in density become noticeable.
Results will vary depending on the cause of hair loss, genetics, hormones, nutrition, health and consistency of your routine.
Think in months, not days. Consistency is key.
WHAT TO EXPECT
MONTH 1
BUILD THE ROUTINE
Focus on consistency. Early changes may include how the scalp feels, changes in oiliness or dryness, and reduced shedding for some people.
MONTH 2-3
LOOK FOR EARLY CHANGES
As the hair cycle progresses, some people may begin noticing less shedding, small new hairs or improvements in the overall appearance and condition of their hair.
MONTH 4+
CONTINUE & MAINTAIN
Hair growth is gradual. Continue your routine consistently and assess progress using photographs rather than checking your hair from day to day.
Important: Individual results vary, and the underlying cause of hair loss will influence what results are possible.
REAL PEOPLE. REAL PROGRESS.
Hair growth is a journey, and no two journeys look exactly the same.
Royal Bloom has been developed and refined through real-world use, observation and feedback, with progress assessed over time rather than overnight.
These journeys show what consistency, scalp care and a targeted routine can look like in real life.
8 WEEK PROGRESS
